Glad to hear you want to live in our lov...Hi Amy.

Glad to hear you want to live in our lovely area!

Bizzare that 40% of buildings in Scotland are built in the same way, and that most on Grand Designs are built using the same methods - timber frame is making a comeback, and Wall Street has a very early example of this energy efficient modern building method. High Street Mortgage lenders just don't understand how buildings & builders work best!

With regards to how residents bought theirs - Some bought outright, some had loans, one resident converted the walls to blockwork to secure a mortgage.

Strangely its a bit of a problem for high street lenders (same with insurance companies) as online & phone applications always fail on the box ticking front as soon as flood plain, flat roof and timber frame is mentioned.

If the issue is a high street lender's own insurance policy being required as well as their mortgage - then just use a different company - I found it hard to sort out for the same reasons but there are companies out there, and a broker will be able to get you the best deals.

If the property is insured then there is absolutely no risk for the mortgage company then, unless the mortgage defaults of course.

Try the Nationwide and Halifax - they appear to not penalize timber frame construction.

Another option is forget the high street banks - use a mortgage broker - most independent financial advisers will be able to help you with this.

Although I didn't need a mortgage - I can certainly help with the insurance method - use Holland Insurance Brokers, a local company owned by my partner Cathy - they have consistently always found me the best insurance quotes for my place over the last 4 years (01255) 812 796. I'd recommend them, one of my other neighbours insures with them too.derekcfoleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08529102519926926225noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4915646065386420941.post-56851540355172651312016-04-22T13:16:25.687+01:002016-04-22T13:16:25.687+01:00Hello, I am in process of buying property in wall ...Hello, I am in process of buying property in wall street. Family frien...Hello, I just discovered this blog. Family friends used to own one of the bungalows on Beech Road. I spent my childhood in and around the properties from the early 1970s until approximately 1982ish (I am now 43).

It was a great place to come down from London for weekends or weeks during school holidays and I have fantastic memories of walking across the creeks from the property to the sea wall.

About 7 or 8 years ago we stayed in Clacton and we walked the sea wall to Beech Road and it brought back so many memories as I hadn't been back there since the early 80s. The big concrete blocks that we used to jump between, the bungalow stilts of a property that was no longer there (it burnt down in the mid-70s and I remember getting told off for picking off the burnt wood!

One thing I was surprised at was the size of the creek between the bungalows and the sand banks. I don't remember being able to walk across but the sand in front of the bungalows but the creek was a lot bigger than when I was a kid. I also remember going across to the sand bank and putting cockle lines down, we'd then go back the next day and then boil them up! I do remember that we'd go back some years and the whole area had changed due to shifting sand but that was just part of the enjoyment.

I also remember that you could still see railway tracks on the sand banks (are they still there?) and if you went along Ray Creek you could still see the wooden structure of what we were told was also part of the railway.

I thought you'd like to know that the road hadn't changed as it was extremely bumpy with many potholes 35 years ago, thank goodness we had a Land Rover so it was nice to see that you were trying to fill in the worst of them.

Best regards
D Morris'Big' Davehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10509184702548628493noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4915646065386420941.post-14754973793956107352014-01-09T00:11:25.621+00:002014-01-09T00:11:25.621+00:00I enjoy reading your blog, any updates?I enjoy reading your blog, any updates?Gunscrossedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10833223278858427163noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4915646065386420941.post-26014482511167453262012-07-04T15:38:41.998+01:002012-07-04T15:38:41.998+01:00The noise levels have been particularly bad here o...The noise levels have been particularly bad here over the last 2 days - Obviously I complained, and had a very long conversation with Qinetic's public relations officer to understand whats going on. She assured me that when they get too many complaints, they are reprimanded. But ultimately they are contractually bound to dispose of a given quantity of ordenance each day. She suggested that they do feed back complaints to the staff, so lower levels can be achieved. Another thing I realised is that potentially most of the shockwaves are affected massively by the weather, as she explained that the explosions go on a lot more often, but are sometimes not heard depending on weather conditions, and that they use acoustic modelling to predict sound levels.

Doesn't work obviously as I wouldn't have to call them after minor earthquake effects rippled across my home making it shake several times over the last 2 days!

Contacted my MP, and another neighbouring ward's MP too, but lets face it, they're a business, and do work for the government, the fact that the entire south east of England has become a lot more populated since tests began will not wash, as is the "you should have been informed about it when you bought your property" argument they give.

I've had pretty insulting letters from Qinetic after complaints stating that my home could not possibly vibrate in the way I describe. I told them yesterday that they should come here when its going on - then they'll see just how unacceptable it is. Perhaps Tendring District Council and the Land Registry should warn people its like living on a geological fault line along our coast until activity is ended at Shoeburyness.derekcfoleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08529102519926926225noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4915646065386420941.post-51344836068832633102012-03-14T22:59:39.402+00:002012-03-14T22:59:39.402+00:00this blog is very informativethis blog is very informativeAqua Techhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06697679047996089179noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4915646065386420941.post-72279982323541076902011-08-19T00:41:19.557+01:002011-08-19T00:41:19.557+01:00Yeah, give it a rest.

I wou...Hi Derek, thanks for making things clearer.
I would like to say, though, that we haven't yet agreed on committee members or any conditions. All that stuff about being able-bodied etc...you might just have well have said you don't want Phil or Carol on the pump committee. Whilst it may not be so important regards the actual pump, don't forget that Phil has spent plenty of time laying drains and that knowledge could be invaluable, especially as he knows how things were done back in the day, with imperial fittings etc. He certainly has more experience than any of us at rodding !!! Carol has spent more time than anyone doing the money. That experience shouldn't be ignored, either.
I propose that we set up a proper committee with minutes and everything to deal with things at Lee-over-Sands. A pump committee could be separate but associated.
I have today agreed the contract rates with Eon, which are even slightly cheaper than the last figures they gave me ! We are on that one year contract from today. I will now need a key to the pumphouse to take a new meter reading within the next couple of days. Phil is playing darts with John tomorrow night(thurs) and will get a key then.
Problems with the sewerage are one of the few things that can spoil things down here. Next we may have to deal with the water.
Let's tread lightly.
